imac won't shut down

imac os 7.5 i scroll to shut down, the shut down box appears, i click shut down again, and it does what it always does when i tell it shut down. but the next morning as soon as i touch it it's all on right away- like it is waking from sleep.

Tell us the exact Mac model, please.
and you mean OS X 10.7.5?

Your symptoms "might" be caused by a dead/weak PRAM/backup battery. Here's an example of how to replace one - it's very difficult:
