Apple has announced there will be no further development of Aperture as it and iPhoto will be replaced by a single photo app next year. That should simplify your decision.

Thats odd, (well maybe not) but it seems that Adobe has beat them by a large margin. Which is strange because apple is such a multi-media friendly system. Thanks for the info.

Actually Aperture/iPhoto/Photos are not comparable with Photoshop or PS Elements. These are two totally different programs for two totally different purposes.

Lets just say (the new) Photos or Lightroom are more comparable to each other as they are for processing large quantities of photos. Now its true many of us may edit one photo at a time in Lightroom, but the programs main goal is to speed up the processing of editing many many photos as quickly as possible. Photoshop, Paintshop, GIMP and Pixelmator do offer more editing control, however they are per image basis. They have no way for batch processing hundreds of photos at a single click.

Now if your looking for the cheapest and in my opinion better solution then PS Elements, get Pixelmator. PSE does not even support 16bit color per channel. Pixelmator does, offers more options and is cheaper.
For individual hobbyist, its your best option and just so much fun to use.
Now if you go commercial, your better off with the photography package from Adobe that has Lightroom and Photoshop for 9.99 a month.
