iMessage waiting for activation

My iPhone 4S just suddenly can't use iMessage. I tried turning off/on but just get "waiting for activation"

Your Mac's Specs
Mac Mini i5 (2014 High Sierra), iPhone X, Apple Watch, iPad Pro 12.9, AppleTV (4)
1. Turn iMessage off.
2. hard reset (hold sleep/wake and home until the phone reboots)
3. connect to wifi or 3g. Go to safari and confirm you're network connection is working ok.
4. Switch iMessage back on

Sorry for the delay - yes it was solved a couple of days later. I just turned off the phone and iMessage, then back on.

Thanks for the help.
