Hi,

I am trying to help a friend of mine who has an ageing G4 running 9.1.

Is this OS known to be unstable at all as tihs G4 has had so many issues it is gettig beyond a joke.

We are looking for a cheap solution to just get it stable and working again. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Many TIA,

Jon

Try resetting the pram. Restart and hold down command-option-p-r until it chimes 3 or 4 times. You might need to reset some system prefs like date & time. Also might want to upgrade to 9.2.

Have you run any utilities to test the hardware? RAM can go bad and will cause problems that can be very difficult to isolate. Also, if you can be more specific about the problems it would be easier to help.

Do a "clean re-install." It's easy, there's an option in the OS 9 installer when you boot from that CD. It will create a new System folder, but leave all the other stuff on the disk.
