Hey Guys, I bought a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter today and now trying to watch some movies whilst connected to my big hd tv,

audio is still coming out of my macbook though.

I've alt-clicked the speaker icon at the top and my toshiba tv is definitely ticked.

Anyone know how to solve this?

Or is the adapter i bought only for visual and not audio?

On the OUTPUT section of my sound settings, it says "Toshiba-tv" but under that it says
"This selected device has no output controls."

Any help would be appreciated, thanks! :D

Have you checked the TV sound settings? Maybe it needs to be changed from the internal speakers to the HDMI port you have the Thunderbolt adapter plugged into.

Are you using the ARC HDMI port on your TV? That allows audio and video to be sent in the same cable/port. The other HDMI ports won't do that.

Alternatively, you could run a separate audio cable from your headphone jack to a receiver if you have one and play through surround sound speakers.

I certainly didn't think of that. Haven't used VLC for playback in a while.
