Hello I just switched over to mac from pc and I'm trying to work the bugs out. I have used a very simple version of quickbooks for years on my pc and I would like to contunue. I'm not interested in switching to their monthly subscription service so I looked into buying an old version off of ebay. Would this copy of quickbooks work with my newer os?

Welcome to the forums.
You have not told us what version of OS X you are running, so I am assuming it is Mavericks.
From the Intuit Quickbooks Support site. ......

QuickBooks for Mac 2013 and earlier:

Although QuickBooks for Mac 2013 and earlier versions may run on Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks), some features may not run correctly and we will not be able to support customers in this environment. Earlier versions of QuickBooks were designed and built to run on the Mac OS version that was available at that time and not Mac OS X 10.9.

It's only a monthly subscription now?
If so, I'd write to them and complain. And I'd seriously consider getting something else, even though it means learning a new application.

Yes, I am running Mavericks, sorry to leave that out! Thanks for the info!

And yes, now quickbooks is only a monthly subscription based service. Very annoying. Not to bore you with the details but I have tried other invoicing software like macProfit. For my specific needs which are pretty limited really, it adds a few layers of steps that I don't need. Just lowers my efficiency.

Thanks for the assistance!

Thanks for clarifying the OS version.
I would no longer use that 2006 version based on the info from the Intuit support site as it seems that you are using this app. as part of a revenue generating work stream. I assume that invoicing is a critical step in the process, so I would make sure it does not break down :)

Only my 2 cents.

Nope. Not without Rosetta, which will not run on Mavericks.

Yeah, I agree with cradom, the processor specs are incompatible. I currently run quickbooks 2013 for mac. Didn't know it went to subscription only. I just checked at amazon and found this for the 2014 version:
Amazon.com: QuickBooks 2014 for Mac [Download]: Software

The product description does not indicate a monthly fee. For $178 up front I should hope not.

I have used quickbooks for many years both the PC version and now the Mac version. I never buy the upgrade from Intuit. We use this software at work and my boss almost fell for the service call from Intuit trying to sell her a monthly upgrade service. All we needed was the tax table upgrade service. Much cheaper.

The super secret moderator decoder ring allows me to see both the edited and unedited version of that post. I have only one thing to say: "Funniest typo of the day."

I've made some real good ones myself on a regular basis. Happens to the best of us.

That's got to be a con. Just guessing! ;)
