External monitor recommendations

I am looking for recommendations for an external monitor for my macbook pro. I have a 2013 13" macbook pro with a retina display. I like the size because I frequently travel with it. But because of the small size, I would like a larger monitor when working from home. The monitor will be used for photo and video editing in Aperture and Final Cut Pro.

Can anybody offer any recommendations or guidance (or warnings about what not to get)?

Unless you absolutely need 100% color accuracy (which you will pay for if you do)...just about any monitor will do. Just select one based on price & size.
