Hi,
I replaced the internal HD in my iMac G5 (running Tiger) with a new Seagate Barracuda 500Gig drive. When I boot up, and attempt to format the drive using OS X Disk Utility, the new drive isn't showing. However, if I boot using Drive Genius, it is apearing. Here is some additional info on the iMac:
Mdl: PowerMac8,2
CPU Type:powerPc G5 (3.0)
CPU Speed: 2GHz

Any suggestions on how I can get this up and running again?....

If you just installed this new HD...what are you booting the computer with?

I initially booted up with my original OS X Tiger Install disc. When it didn't recognize the new HD, I tried using the Drive Genius disc.

Unfortunately it only has one internal drive. I did read about the possible 1.5 GB speed issue and jumpered it, but that didn't make a difference.

One question you did not answer, did the old drive die and if not does it still show up in Disk Utility?

All G5's can handle two internal drives. Try popping the new one in position two.

Whoops my bad this is an iMac ~ sorry. Led astray by the PowerMac reference.

My iMac G5 2.1 Ghz iSight (Very Last IMAC G5 before Intel) has ONE SATA Port. Only One drive can be connected internally.

Dennis-- The old disk did not die, but it was having issues with booting up, and getting hung up in applications. Last night I put the old drive back in, and now it doesn't recognize that drive either. I think I'm just going to put the old drive in an external hard drive case, and transfer files to my new Mac. I had originally intended to keep the old iMac for genealogy research, but trying to "revive it" is consuming too much of my time.
