Can't see the XP station, but XP can see the MAC

I'm setting up a user with file sharing between his two stations.
The MAC automatically set itself up on the DOMAIN. The XP Media edition PC is only in a workgroup. They're linked with a LINKSYS 4 port printer router.

This has been a thorn in my side for days. I linked the XP station to the MAC but the MAC can't see the XP station (Media edition, which is just like home edition). I know that the XP station can not go on the Domain if it is a raw install.

Any help would be great,

First: There is no DOMAIN. That requires a Server.

Second: Is the XP firewall on? Or any other firewall like Internet Security or Zone Alarm? If so shut it off.

The Internet settings should be standard. What Zone Alarm's or INternet Security would keep a Media Center Edition PC from being seen in a domain?

add your subnet to the trusted zone of your firewall.
I like to disable the windows firewall (and exeptions),
and use zone alarm.
If you have no luck there give the xp machine a static ip,
& click on finder/go/connect to server/ type smb://*ipaddress*
