Thanks fir that info Craig. I have not used Parallels since switching to Fusion some time ago. Every time a new version of Parallels comes out I at least look at the features though. Think I will pass on this entirely.

Thanks Craig. I have a copy of Parallels 8 which is not installed and have no intention of upgrading to version 9 anyway. I hate when software developers pull a stunt like this. Reminds me back when TurboTax (Windows version) installed a hidden anti-piracy routine in the root that couldn't be removed even when TurboTax itself was removed. Ever since that time, I have refused to buy anything from Intuit. Guess now I'll add Parallels to that list.

I have been trying to decide between Parallels and VMware.
This has just made my mind up.

To VMWare,

If you are considering something like this, suggest you read these sort of threads and see what end users think of these back door installations.

To Parallels,

Instead of possibly having an app that long standing members in the Mac community might recommend, by installing it via the back door, I believe you've just lost the recommendation of pretty much every long standing member of at least this forum.

Good luck with that.

Personally, it wasn't that hard to banish. I agree that Parallels shouldn't have installed it unless I said I wanted it, but it was painless to kill. Tempest in a teapot.

That's good to know though I don't anticipate using it since switching to Fusion. It's a bit more disturbing if it really does onstage no mater what you choose to do.

I got an ad message from Parallels that as I recall said prior versions would not run in Mavericks, so have to upgrade to version 9. So I did. Following with interest.

I just did the upgrade to Parallels Desktop 9 and it did NOT install Parallels Access. I said NO to the option.

Perhaps they have removed it after complaints?

I was pretty sure I had done that too. When I ran their utility for checking for and removing Access, it found no instance on my iMac.
