Charge 4S with 5V, 0.5A power adapter?

I'm taking a long bike trip and need to cut down on my electronic accessories. My camera charger is 5V, 0.5A. The iPhone 4S charger is 5V, 1.0A.

Can I charge my phone with my camera adapter?

You probably can, however, since the camera charger emits half the current which your iPhone needs to charge at a proper rate, it's going to take considerably longer to charge. And there's always the chance that it may not attain a full charge that way.
