I installed Ubuntu 13.04 in Parallels on a Mac Book Pro Retina. Gnome does not display a menu or anything else than a single folder. However, Kubuntu works fine and the retina display seems to be supported (?) but the fonts are tiny tiny.

How can I increase the font size without having to reduce the screen resolution or to set the font size individually for the different display styles?

You may be able to increase the font size on the Kubuntu desktop if scaling works. However, I doubt it since you're running it in a virtual machine. Parallels would have to likewise support the scaling.

You might want to ask the same questions in the Kubuntu or Ubuntu forums. Many folks there own and operate Macs.
