i dont know how many of y'all do this, but i'm a big fan of hosts files. i used to use the google chrome plugin to block ads, but it slows down browsing a bit, but enough to bother me, and i just really love hosts files.

i use the one from this site

Blocking Unwanted Connections with a Hosts File

im not sure how hosts editing works on macs, but what i did was went to terminal and typed

sudo nano /private/etc/hosts

then my password and i went to the last line and copied and pasted the hosts file's text.

then did control + O to save, then enter.

then control + x to exit. and now so far things are working good and ad free, and browsing is much more snappier and clean.

I finally found something that works smoothly for me

step 1. get firefox

step 2. Adblock Plus — for annoyance-free web surfing
*there are other plugins called adblock and etc - but there's something about them that really slow down browsing...

but this plugin is fast like a nascar and works great!
