Hello, I just purchased a Airport Extreme. I have been trying all day to set it up with no luck. I am trying to hook it up to An Arris TM822 modem using an Ethernet cable. Following the instructions, I attach the cable, plug the airport extreme in, wait for the solid green light, then start the airport utility. The utility shows up on my computer screen, with only the picture of the "globe." eventually a picture of the router shows up below that, with a green light. But the "globe" light stays yellow, and when I click on it, It reads "disconnected." If I click on the WiFi signal icon at the top of the computer, while pressing the option button, it shows that I have a strong signal, but won't load any web pages. If I Plug the cable into the computer from the modem, I get a great signal as well as internet access. So I know its not the modem. Also, the computer is a MacBook Pro. Sorry for the long post, but I'm trying to be as thorough as possible. Thanks. John.

In Airport Utility - what is the router mode you have it set at? You may want to try it in bridge mode - to avoid double NAT.

Thats another thing. I'm not sure where to find that info in the airport utility. Most of the "things" that I can click on, are grayed out. Where can I find this info on the airport utility screen? Now, while airport utility was running, I clicked system preferences, then network. It showed IPV4 in DHCP + NAT. It shows an option for "bridge", but it wont let me make that my choice. IPV 6 is set to automatic. Thanks Brian, You have been the best help so far.

Its under Network in Airport Utility and this is using 6.1 and it should have updated if not click on update.
Do you have the LAN port of the modem connected to the WAN port on the AEBS?

Yes. there is a yellow port on the modem, where I plug the Ethernet cable into. Then into the WAN port on the back of the AEBS. That port has the circle above it.

So - under the Internet tab of Airport Utility - you show Connect using DHCP - right? Internet options...shows IPv6 automatic - that shouldn't be a factor - mine is link local only - but that shouldnt be a factor here.

On your Wireless tab - you're showing "create a wireless network" - as opposed to extend one...

and...on the Network tab you're set as DHCP and NAT? But it won't let you get to the bridge option?

Double check the settings the other two tabs then.

These tabs I mentioned are in system>network. I did not access the airport utility to get to these settings. If these tabs are in the airport utility, I don't know where they are located.

These are screen shots of my AEBS setup and the problems I am having. The light on the AEBS is solid green, my computer picks up the signal, but I am still disconnected.

In airport utility when you click edit it should be the first screen which you did not post that is where you set to off(bridge mode) under network just before disks because it looks like you are double nat which is both the modem and AEBS are trying to assign an ip.

Ok Can't believe I never saw the edit button. So, I clicked edit, then set the modem to bridge. The modem reset itself, than i lost the connection. Then, I got these messages.

Try resetting the AEBS and let it walk you through it.

Now that you've found the edit button - go back and check the panes that I described in my earlier message.

I got it all fixed. Turns out that the modem was sending the router the wrong IP address. I called Comcast, and they reset the modem from their end, and everything works great. Thank you guys for all your help.
