Hi,

My computer has decided to not store the IP address (I think) and will not allow me to stay connected to the internet. I have read up and it seems that with macs, this just happens sometimes. I know there is a way to fix this, but I am not sure of the steps. Can anyone let me know how to do this? Please let me know if you need more details.

Thanks!!

Moved to correct forum.

Check your settings from System Preferences, Network, Advanced, TCP/IP. Make sure that you're using DHCP. An ip address should automatically be assigned by your router (assuming you're using one). You may have to also go into your router's internal settings menu to make sure that it's using DHCP.

Check with your router manual or your ISP to learn how to access the router's internal menu.

Sorry, this one's a little confusing. There's a step by step process available or you don't know how to do it?

What make and model of router do you have?

it is not the router. i found a thread somewhere else (which of course i can not find now) where the person had the exact same problem. they called mac and were led through this process, but he did not mention the steps, so i really dont know. all other computers (including macs) work in the house. it is just something on mine i have to sort out
