'cannot connect to itunes store' pop up when in itunes and app store. it only appears when i press search in both.

Sounds to me like a firewall issue.

First and foremost, turn OFF the built-in software firewall if you have it turned on. It was OFF by default for a reason.

Disable any other blocking software such as Little Snitch.

See if that clears up the issue.
