I'm trying to reset my netgear router because i lost the password it and I have a new laptop that I want to start using. I think that my Mac desktop is the admin for the router, So I was hoping that someone could help me because I heard that there is a possibility That I could loose everything on my mac if I push the reset button or something like that.

Someone PLEASE Help me reset my router on my Mac!!!!

So Do I just push the reset button for it to go back to factory settings while its still plugged into everything??
And then when it's reset how do I change the user name and password?

Yes, push the reset button while it's plugged in. The userid and password will return to the factory default. Where is your Netgear user manual?

The usual userid is "admin" and password could be "admin" or "user".

I recently moved and I don't know where anything is at the moment and don't have a lot of time to find it.
After it goes back to factory default how do I change it to what I want it to be?

Can you give us the model of the netgear? If so I can tell you how to get into it to set it up after the reset.

There should be a label on the Netgear somewhere with the Model.

Here's the manual for that router http://www.lmi.net/wp-content/uploads/WNR2000.pdf. Look at chapter one of the manual. It's probably safe to begin with section 1-2. It explains how to complete the basic setup using a web browser.

Although section 1-1 mentions the setup Wizard on CD, If they follow their usual pattern that will be PC only. If you are unable to get the web browser method of configuration to work make sure that Safari is showing the Develop menu and set its user agent to Internet Explorer.

With the router plugged into the computer, Open a Web Browser and type the following:

http://www.routerlogin.net

When prompted, enter admin for the router user name and password for the router password, both in lowercase letters. (For security reasons, the router has its own user name and password.)
