Umax Powerlook 1100

I am trying to use a powerlook 1100 scanner to my iBook running 10.4. Umax don't support 10.4 and offer Silverfast at €150 as a solution. Image capture cant see see the scanner. Virtual PC running XP wont support Firewire. Any solution or suggestions are welcome. thanks. Eugene
