windows 8 preview 64 bit

Hi folks, nice to be here, i live on the scottish borders uk, and it is superb, but this is a little problem myself and so many others folks have come across, it ref, windows 8 preview, 64 bit, the 32 bit is no problem, installing through bootcamp, but 64 bit, it dont want to know, just hangs and comes back with black screen asking to make boot option, 1 or 2, This concerns my imac 20" dual core, running lion, fully updated



so any advice folks

You say you have an iMac Dual Core running Lion? I don't think so because a Dual Core machine is only 32 bit and can not run Lion. In any event, if in fact the machine is a Dual Core you can't run the Windows 8 64 bit preview. You can however, run the 32 bit version.

Hmm, hadn't heard that before. Does it apply to all dual cores? My imac has a C2D processor with a max of 4Gb ram (I upgraded it from 2Gb). My MBP also has a C2D processor with a max of 8 Gb ram (I upgraded it from 4Gb). Both of these Mac's are running SL. I know the MBP is using SL 64 bit but is my iMac using a 32 bit version? I had assumed I could upgrade them both to Lion but now I have my doubts. Any ideas?

Core Duo processors are 32bit, the Core 2 Duos and the i series are 64bit.

dooshka, any particular reason you're using the 64bit version of W8? You'll probably be fine with the 32bit version.

If he's running Lion, it's a C2D, not a Core Duo. Obviously a typo. Any Core2Duo can run Lion.

Anyway, the trick to getting Windows 8 64-bit running is to first of all install Win 7 64-bit, then upgrade from within Windows. A lot of the drivers don't work (track pad doesn't behave for example) but otherwise it works OK.
