Is my mac x32 or x64?

Hey guys,

I know this is really stupid but... I need to do some analysis on my home network and need to download "Wireshark" I don't know if my platform is x32 or x64. I don't see anything in "About this mac" section. Can someone let me know?

64bit. Note though that you can use both 32 and 64bit software.

Or you could have typed "uname -a" in the terminal.

uname won't be entirely accurate. For instance, uname -p reports "i386" for me but I have a Core 2 Duo. What you actually want is the following: A value of 0 means you're not 64bit capable, a value of 1 means you are.

If you type uname -a it outputs "...x86_x64"

On your machine but it doesn't on my 64bit machine. That's my point - uname doesn't really tell you if you have a 64bit processor.

The whole 64 bit verses 32 bit conundrum is much less of a concern for mac users, but rest assured, you are using a 64 bit CPU on a 64 bit OS.

Or you could just pull up Activity Monitor and it will show you everything running in 64bit.
