Initialising External Hard Drive

I have recently bought a new usb external hard drive. I've had no problem initialising and formatting it for a pc, but my mac wont even recognise it.

I know how to format it once the drive is mounted or at least visible to disk util.

Does anyone know how I get my mac to recognise it.

Oh, other info: I'm running Panther on a G4 Powerbook, and the drive is an 80GB 2.5" USB only.

external USB 2.0 HD isn't being recognized/seen in disk util or finder

Hi All

Similar problem here also. I'm running latest version of Mac OS XTiger 10.4.4 on my G4 iBook 1.2ghz.

Unfortunately, no joy here too, the Mac doesn't see the drive when i plug it in despite the green powerlight coming on external hard drive which indicates 'power on'.

Works fine on my windows box, so why not on my iBook?
I have tried to format it on my Windows Box as Fat32, and tried to plug it in iBook, but still not being found.

I've also tried plugging it in unformatted, but still no luck..

Any help or suggestions at all appreciated, please offer helpful suggestions on how i may get the external hard drive recognized on my Mac :(

Check the Disk Utility (Applications->Disk Utility)

Does it show up there?
