iTunes help...podcast descriptions don't display

I have this problem with all the podcasts I subscribe to: when I download a podcast episode from the itunes store manually instead of updating the podcast from my library, the description tab for the new episdode is always empty. The description is there, it's filled out in the store and if I select "show description" for the track in the library it will show it correctly in the popup, but nothing displays in the tab. The only way it works is when I update the podcast automatically from my library instead of getting an episode myself from the itunes store. Which is fine for the latest episodes, but for back episodes that I have re-downloaded it is driving me crazy not having the descriptions filled out... Anyone familiar with this problem or have suggestions for how to fix it?
