The following is a quote from the FAQ on Lion

Is my system eligible for the upgrade?
To upgrade you must meet the minimum hardware requirements, which are that you must have an Intel based Mac with the minimum processor of Core 2 Duo, typically 2007 models and later and 8GBs free space on your HDD (although this IS less than you typically should maintain for optimum performance anyway). In addition, you must be running Snow Leopard vs 10.6.6 or later.

In addition here is a Link to Apple's stated requirements for running Lion
http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html

So, if your Mac meets the minimum requirements above you can upgrade to Lion
