After using Windows since 1998, I finally made the jump with a 13" Black Macbook 2,1 (Core 2 Duo, 4 GB ram) that I picked up in good shape for $450.

It's been extremely fun to start setting it up. I watched the June keynote and I'm really excited about iOS 5 and iCloud.

One thing that's funny is that I guess I went through the first ???? that newbies have...."why does it get hot?" :D:D:D

After looking around several forums, it quickly hit me that this is pretty normal. Then it also hit me that most if not all of the Windows lappys that I've previously used have big vent holes in the bottom, side and/or back for ventilation. Obviously the macbook has the ports on the side but no big vent holes...so obviously it's going to handle heat differently.

So, I am going to use some type of lap stand for when I'm using it on my couch or recliner....any suggestions on the best one for that?

Glad to finally make the switch. :D

I use a lapdesk (essentialy just a kidney bean shaped piece of plywood with a pillow velcroed to the bottom). Got it from Office Depot for $25 if I remember right and it works pretty well.

Lots of different types available; mine is like this one.

Way... way too many specs to list.
I have a rain iLap, which I completely love. Also works well to help cool on a desk.

I wonder how big the temperature range on different computers can be? My MacbookPro certainly gets warm, but not uncomfortably so and I rest it with no problems on my bare legs.

I'm thinking too that I've seen that initially after setup it's indexing for spotlight....I noticed that now it doesn't get near as hot. Maybe that's it. :)

Or maybe it's just that I noticed it more before. Who knows....
