As messed up as this economy is, I'm one of those unfortunate souls who ended up unemployed for a long time. 35.5 months to be exact. My primary experience has been in accounting in various industries, but fortunately I'm quite the handyman too. So I've picked up a day job or a week-long job here and there doing various tasks. Even had a 2 month temp job at my wife's office the last 2 christmas seasons to help them out. But permanent employment has finally come my way! It's not my ideal situation, but it's a job and it allows me to stop collecting the meager unemployment benefits (2nd lowest in the nation). I'm a warehouse associate for Amazon. Had my first day of orientation this week and will start work next week. I had about 2 or 3 more months of unemployment and then no more. I've exhausted all the extensions available.
Anyways, just wanted to share my good news with everyone. :)

Congratulations!!!:):)

On the downside...now you won't have as much time to send us photos of Apple Store openings!;)

Were I out of work for 35+ months, I'd likely be in prison or on the run for a series of ingenious and elaborately planned museum heists! Kidding. Congrats on the job!

Congratulations!

Really glad to hear the good news. :)
And, in my experience, it is a lot easier to find a better job when you have one than any kind of job when you don't.

Out of curiosity, do you get an Amazon discount? (They get so much of my money it might be worth my while when I retire to work for them part time). ;)

Congrats on the job. Think I'm with XJ.

The wife has been out looking since Feb. She's gotta be sending out 50 resumes a week. Gets 1 call back every couple of weeks out of those. Has only made it in to about 6 interviews so far. Finally told her to go ahead and file for her retirement.

Thanks, guys. I know I'm improving my chances of getting the job I want by having any job at all. It's taken this long just to get something. Pretty crazy, eh?

I get a 10% discount. Nothing impressive.

Congratulations on finding permanent employment. Being self employed and trying to keep up with costs, utilities, etc, and all the other nuances of running things, sometimes I long for the days when I was working for someone else and let them worry about all that stuff. :)

Anyway, thanks for sharing the good news.

...

The oil crisis in the early 80's did that for me.

Congrats on finding employment.

I was out of work (full-time) for 18 months. Went back to work with a 60% pay cut. If I could have afforded insurance for my family I would have been self-employed.

Congrats.

Nah, AZ. 4 of them here and the one I'm in is being built onto. Largest Amazon fulfillment center in the world when it's finished.

I feel your pain man. I'm also in AZ, and my 12-month unemployment benefits just ran out. I am still under-employed at Sam's Club. I was able to get hired by leaving my degree off the application. I never thought having a degree would be a detriment.
