Thanks gents!! I've said this elsewhere but it bears repeating here - this was quite a surprise to me but I view this as quite an honor. The standard for moderation is very high at this forum - one of the key elements that separates it from other forums - and I will of course, do my best to uphold that high standard.

Sly - the only person I planned to ban was Vansmith - but Chris just told me I couldn't. I'm a little bummed :( :P

Ha!! They had a momentary lapse in judgement - plus I may have greased a few palms.

Thanks all!! I'd have been back here sooner but my hands are all shriveled from doing laundry by hand. It's tough sledding being a newbie!!

Once again Brian, my congratulations and welcome aboard.

One thing I'm curious about though.... you never told us how loud that expensive generator you bought is. ;P

Ha! Yes...the generator debacle. Well - I'm pleased to say that my very expensive generator that is collecting a lot of dust in the garage - is actually very quiet which would have been fantastic had I needed to use it. But of course, that's not how it played out. :[ Really though - compared to other generators it's orders of magnitude more quiet. The regular ones are extremely loud. Honda Super Quiet Generators (http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/products/models.aspx?page=models&section=P2GG&category=sq) The video link on this page gives a good comparison of the sound levels. And since it's never needed to be started - I have no complaints whatsoever about the sound level. :'(

Of course this is a COMMON story. That EXPENSIVE "dusty" generator purchase always seems a little wasteful after it's been purchased, and when there's no impending storm.

But it sure feels good to have it when you need it...and Home Depot, Lowe's, and every other store are all sold out when the next storm arrives!:)

Just go off-grid like my Dads house and the generator will be in operation everyday ;)
