Assuming your iMac with Panther is a PPC you can't run VM software on it. You need an Intel machine in order to use VM software. Neither Parallels, Fusion, nor the free VirtualBox will work on a PPC.

In order to run Windows on a PPC you'll have to use emulation software which is dreadfully slow.

Emulation

Well, Im willing to try anything - I just spent $40 to buy this mac just to TRY A MAC so downloading an emulation software that doesnt cost anything - I definitly would like to try.

And yes it is a Power PC 600MHz

This may sound like a stupid question but if you purchased the Mac to try it, why do you need emulation software? You can run Windows and Linux on non-Macs.

If it's a PPC iMac, consider Yellow Dog Linux. It's based on RedHat, but is PPC native. If it's Intel, any of the more recent Linux distros for Intel should work ok.
