Cut lecture recording mp3

I have some lectures I recorded (MP3 format) where we broke for lunch and I left recorder going. Looking for easy free app/program for Lion that would allow me to cut out sections where we took breaks and I didn't shut off recorder.

There are several options here. I'll mention a few but I am sure others will chime in with their suggestions.

If you have one of the versions of iLife this kind of edit can be done in GarageBand/ It's a little clumsy as a serious audio editor but will do what you need for that type of edit.

QuickTime X will also get the job done for this type of edit. The drawback is that I don't think it shows the waveform in a way that lets you visually identify where the material is you want to cut out.
