How can I block a number to my 3GS iPhone?

Someone I do not even know is texting me with ugly messages. How can I block that number? All help would be appreciated.

Who is your service provider?
I know you can block numbers via the Verizon's web site. You might want to call your provider, they should be able to tell you how.

Same goes if your provider is AT&T. I don't know if that can be blocked via the website but I took care of something similar through a call to customer service.
Thanks, I will contact Virgin Mobile and see what they have to say. I thought It might be something I could do at my end, something simple like we do with SPAM that gets through.
