I'm starting at music college in September, and I need to get a Macbook or similar. I'll be using it for Logic, storing my music (itunes) and assignments, essays etc.

I'm looking at buying a used Ibook G4, they seem to be within my budget, which is about £300.

Would something like this be suitable ?

Thanks !

No such thing. There are:

- iBook G4's
- Powerbook G4's
- MacBook's
- MacBook Pro's

...but there are no MacBook G4's. If you're looking for an Apple laptop computer:

- make a list of what applications you know you will need to run
- verify what the system requirements are for those apps.
- then make sure the used Apple laptop you may be considering buying meets or exceeds those system requirements.

Are you absolutely sure you want an iBook G4? Do you know anything about iBook G4's?

The iBook G4's are:

- between 5-8 years old (last one was discontinued in 2006)
- can be on the slower side when it comes to performance
- max. OS on the "best" iBook G4 is 10.5.8
- do not have an Intel cpu...so you cannot run OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or OS 10.7 (Lion) the latest Apple OS.

Simply put -- I think your budget is too low for a recent Mac portable (which is what you are going to need, the iBook G4 will be completely inadequate). I'd suggest at a dead minimum a Core2Duo MacBook Pro (ie 2007 or later).

1 month old but I'd like to give my opinion in case someone found this by searching

Agree with every reply

For long term you should buy Mac with Core 2 Duo or better so you can use current OS and Softwares. CoreDuo and PPC are not support with current softwares and OS not a good idea to buy.
