I've been told by Plantronics that the reason my Plantronic .625 headset will not work via its 3.5mm jack plugs (the Mac doesn't recognise the microphone) is that the wiring of the plugs in Macs is not compatible with Plantronics headsets. Does anyone know of an inexpensive headset for use with Skype that has 3.5mm I/O jack plugs that work with a Mac?

To my knowledge most Macs don't have an analogue mic input.

I'd suggest getting a USB headset.

The audio input port on the Mac requires an amplified signal to be recognized. Most headsets aren't amplified, and as such, won't work. The solutions are either an amplified headset, a USB headset, or a go-between device, such as the Griffin iMic.

Thanks guys. I specifically do not want to use a USB port which is why I've asked the question to begin with. The Plantronics .625 actually comes with a USB adapter but all my USB ports are spoken for. What's this Griffin iMic? I'll check into that.

Thanks

Mike

So where does one buy an amplified headset compatible with a Mac? Any ideas?

You use a USB one like we've been saying this entire time in the thread.

If you need more ports, get a USB hub.
