Hard drive died on G5 model A1047 I know I need to replace the hard drive but I don't have a system start-up disc. I do have a OS X Leopard 10.5.6 disc will that work? or do I have to hope I can find someone who has one. Does anybody know what the maximum size SATA hard drive this computer will operate on. The dead HD is Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB. Will it run on a 1TB Hard drive or is that asking to much. Thank you for any help you can provide Tom M.

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Yes if it is a black coloured full retail install DVD it will install just fine. No if it is a silver/grey coloured disc from another computer as they are extremely model specific. It will run the 1TB drive just fine. You may have trouble find a SATA drive as most new drives will be at least SATA II however most are backwards compatible with SATA.
