I took my mac to an apple shop because I thought that the DC power jack was messed up but it turns out it was the charger. He took the battery out and hooked up a charger and it turned on. He put the battery back in and I took it home and started charging it but now it won't turn on. Any ideas as to why it won't come back on?

Take it back to the Apple store and let them trouble shoot it with the new MagSafe charger and battery in the machine. It's possible the battery may be dead or defective.
