Is my MacBook wireless adapter dead?!

(This started happening a month or so back, out of no where. This happens EVERYWHERE I go, not just my home router. Home, work, coffee shops, any network.)

I turn AirPort on, my network shows up as being detected, but it doesn't automatically connect. I click the network and get "There was an error joining the AirPort network (name)." I can click "Try again" all night if I want, but nothing new happens.

Most of the time, though, no network shows up at all. Or sometimes they show up for a while, I can't connect, then they disappear and no networks are found.

I know hypothetically, since they are solid state components, wireless adapters shouldn't go belly up, but do you think that's what has happened? Should I assume it's "dead" and look into USB adapters? Ethernet cable is fine for use at home, but I'd love to be able to take my laptop out of the house again.

Delete your Airport interface in System Preferences under the Network section by using the minus sign. Then re-add it again. Doing this will wipe out any previously saved network locations and previously joined networks.

I've had to do this from time to time when my WIFI gets squirrely.
