Unable to install Windows

ive been trying to install windows on my macbook but have a problem. i started up boot camp, partitioned my drive and i put in my windows disc. ny mac restarted and now its at a black screen with a flashing line in the top left corner. what do i do?

Is that a full retail version or OEM system builders version?
I.e not a restore disc or one that was bundled with a PC

Is you Mac fully up to date with software updates ? Leopard or Snow Leopard?
