I'm able to listen to files and take phone calls over my truck stereo when I plug the mike jack cable into the car stereo AUX jack, but the quality is fair at best. Is it true the gold tipped cables are better quality than the solver tipped ones I am using now? Any brands anyone can reccomend I try?

You'll notice no difference at all with a gold tipped cable, unless your truck stereo costs well into the four digits. Using lossless files on your iPhone will be a bigger (and free!) step up in quality.

No way to improve the quality of phone calls though, unless you play with the EQ on the stereo to cut out some of the bass and make voice more understandable.
