Building on this thread started by robduckyworth and the further contribution/suggestion by Pigoo - Let's use this thread to capture Geekbench scores. I'll update this post with the leaderboard.

Geekbench can be found here - Geekbench - Primate Labs The 32-bit version can be run at no charge. You do have to purchase a license to unlock the 64-bit version. If you have the full version - please post both scores - and I'll keep a separate 64-bit leaderboard.

_______________________________________________________________

Edit: For now - this will just be for MacForums bragging rights - as we're comparing apples with oranges with bananas. If this grows enough - maybe I'll separate and try to draw some conclusions - but the Geekbench browser has already done a great job of that.

So far it's pigoo3 with a commanding lead - although he is using 2 processors! :Angry-Tongue: - but he gets the bragging rights thus far. Let's get some more scores.

Ok...I'll participate in this thread. :) The "Xbench" thread just wasn't accurately measuring performance for Macintosh computers with more than 4-cores.

Computer Specs:

- "Early 2009" Mac Pro
- CPU: 2 x 2.26ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
- 6 gig ram

- Nick

p.s. I think that we should also start a "Cinebench 11.5" benchmark thread...since Geekbench is great, but only tests the cpu...Cinebench 11.5 also tests the graphics hardware.

Is this 2 runs for the same computer? If so, why so much difference in the scores?

Thanks,

- Nick

The higher score is the 64-bit score. If you start a cinebench thread - with instructions - after I get back from taking the wife out for her mother's day dinner - I'll post results there as well.

I did 2 runs and my score was over 1000 different. Had everything closed.

Geekbench is also showing a lot more difference in the score with the newer CPU's than my C2D compared to XBench.

Thanks...that makes sense...and wow...64-bit certainly makes a difference!:) I looked over your two sets of Geekbench scores...but missed the 32-bit vs. 64-bit part (of course all other details were the same!

Thanks a bunch for the 64-bit score...since we would only see that from someone who purchased the program!:)

I did a couple runs as well...but with the same setup...I didn't get much difference. I did accidentally do a couple runs with Safari & Preview open...and that lowered my score by about 250.

Hahaha, mine is just terrible compared to those MBPs and MPs. Look that three year old MacBook (not) go!

Although it's going to look like I'm coming up with excuses, I stand by my philosophy - benchmarks are irrelevant as long as the machine is fast enough for the user. Still fun to do though.

I'm going to post Geekbench scores for an older MacBook and a MacBook Pro later. Those scores will definitely be more "pedestrian"...but actually these two computers get a lot more use in my home than my Mac Pro. Like you said...the benchmarks don't matter if the computer feels fast...and gets the job done!:)

It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

I get the feeling nothing here will come close to the current high score as per their benchmark browser: a 48 core machine with 128GB RAM running Solaris that scored 49034. That one might just hold out. ;)

Yeah...I don't think any current Macintosh will even come close to that score!!! I think that the fastest current shipping Mac (the 12-core 2010 model) gets a Geekbench score just a hair over 20,000.

If we count the 64bit scores, there is a mid 2010 MP that scored 24333 (see here). The worst is a 32bit PB G3, 401Mhz which scored a whopping 205.
