Audio help!

Hey guys i have a macbook and i need to figure out on how i can speek into my built in mic and be able to hear myself through headphones. i make music and i am trying to make a song that requires echoing but i need to hear the echo as i am making it. (if that makes any sense) thanks guys!

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
Need info on what application you are using, and any other details you can add.
ie. If you were using Garageband, you would simply select real instrument as the new track, and select monitor on.

If you are not using Garage band some audio applications offer a Play Thru setting that may get the job done. If your application of choice doesn't offer that option (usually in Preferences) Rogue Amoeba has a free application to enable this feature. I believe it is called LineIn.
