So I have just bought the parts for my new gaming build.

The Shopping list:

i5 2500k 3.3GHz
4gb G Skill RAM
Gigabyte P67 UD4 board
Corsair 600W PSU
Sapphire Radeon 6850
PC case with 2 120mm fans (for now, until I want to start carving the back off the G5 case)

price for all this? £600! I am stoked. This Sandy Bridge system will blow away both my Macs in terms of performance. Cant wait to start the build.

Nice system for the price there.

I want to build a new one so bad I can taste it.

Want the i7-2600K and then overclock it to around the 5 Ghz mark.

With just air or with water?

oh, i would love to do that, but apparently the 2500k actually overclocks better than the 2600k. cant justify a £100 price increase for the i7 just for hyper threading.

here is someone that managed 5GHz with air:

On the Mac front: I need my Macs for Pro Tools and Logic, so they will not go unused! i just got a bit sick of slow encode times and crappy integrated graphics chipsets, and no internal expansion.

If I could afford it i would have went Mac Pro, but I will learn more this way, and save alot of money.

If I do it, air. Lot of reports of successful o/c's on air.

All my o/c'g has been on air. Never have built a rig with water cooling. Mainly because I always totally broke my rigs down at least every 6 months for a fine cleaning, rebuilt them and did a clean install. Usually with an upgrade to the video card at the same time. At the year mark, had a couple that made it to a year and a half, it was time to build a new one and find a family that couldn't afford a computer to give my old system to.

One of my prime uses would be ripping/encoding... Therefore the 2600K.
10 yrs ago, I would have already ordered the parts. Today, after over a decade of budgeting $3k a year for computers, I mainly just look, salivate a little, and then think, is that really what I want to spend that money on?

Good to know. Personally I've only managed to get most CPUs up to 4Ghz. >_<" I'm a little cautious and scared to go further especially on air.

The salivating part is the same with me. My wallet is like two pieces of cardboard sandwiched together at this point. Not to mention it keeps falling out of my pocket. >_>"
