View Full Version : Why did you choose your forum Avatar?

As an extension of this topic:
http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/anything-goes/47270-why-did-you-choose-your-username.html

Let's see everyone explain their avatar...
(I did a quick forum search and found nothing similar but if someone does feel free to let me know).

I'll start.

My name is Jim. And was a big Earthworm Jim fan as a kid. So I chose this avatar as a little childhood memory. Plus him sharing my name is just a nice bonus.

I just wanted a nice Apple related avatar, and I really iked the effect on the one I chose.

EJ was cool btw :)

I get stuff wrong here often enough, I figured with the right avatar, I could more easily blame them on senility instead of... uhm, ahh, uhm... from doing my growing up in the 60s and early 70s. ;D

I started out with Clippy (the MS Paperclip) more as a joke than anything. After someone else joined and started using the avatar I decided to switch to a photo. Had one handy with my daughter and a trebuchet we built for her science project.
Have been thinking about changing again if I can come up with something:
1) I like better
2) Unique
3) Cool
4) Relatively easy to do

Or, alternatively I might just think about changing and stick with this one for who knows how long. ;)

I'm a big Albert Camus fan (The Stranger is a great novel) and thought it was a cool looking picture. I've also had Bender from Futurama and characters from the Cyanide and Happiness comic.

Hold on a second here .... there is nothing wrong with growing up in the 60's ...
I am living proof... ( don't know if that's good or bad ) ;P

When I joined, I selected an avatar that was available in the default list, and never looked back.

But I guess this thread makes me consider and extreme makeover.

I used to use the same avatar on most sites until I got here. When Snow Leopard was released I really liked the image and used it right away, and haven't thought about changing it once. My username can be found in various sites, mostly car related and part of my username is derived from my car model.

While living in Hungary, I happened upon a music store and decided to check out the cool European Amps and rare old instruments. In their window sat this sign, and thought it was cool. Almost asked if I could purchase it from them, but felt that it would be better to have it stay there for the sake of advertisement. I should have moved the plant though...

I was lazy and just chose a logo from the plethora of available avatars on this site. So I chose the nice shiny red apple. One, because this is a Mac site and two, I figured the red apple wouldn't be as popular as the blue and white ones and I can easily spot my posts. :Smirk:

Mine has been my trusty iBook G4 and has been for years. I changed it for a while then came back to the good old iBook Avatar after an animal threw up all over the poor iBook and shorted out the logic board. Got a new board for $25 and it's like new again!

Sage iMac G3. I love the iMac G3, and I did have it set as the Indigo for a while, but it seemed that that was pretty common so I decided Sage would be good. It's a bit of an "oddball" color as far as G3's go. :P

Found myself doodling over coffee one drowsy morning. I like the Apple logo but was too lazy to try to figure out how to make something my own. Noticed a moon photo I had taken and found myself crudely editing it. Not happy with it, so it will change. Wanted something to find my own posts.

Update: this thread got me thinking so I changed the avatar from the moon-apple to this fireworks photo I took a few years ago. Why? Because I like it, has positive look to it I think, fun. Fits with my Apple experience (so far).

I want to buy a Mac when I can afford one, but I will still need Windows most of the time for the software I use in my Engineering degree (indeed, I'll probably have Windows set as the default boot partition during term time, switching back to OS X in the holidays), so the Boot Camp logo seemed appropriate. I used a coloured-in version just because I thought it looked better!

I deliberately avoided anything Apple related because I'm an inverted snob. I eventually chose the one I did because nobody else appeared to have it and I couldn't be bothered to search through all the options when my most pressing concern was to ask - what I considered to be at the time - an earth shattering question.

Something to do with text between scenes in iMovie11 if I remember correctly.

The answer (Titles) - as simplistic as it seems - was the final piece of information I needed in order to go out and purchase my first Mac.

Speaking of drinking and philosophers, one of my favorite jokes (which probably speaks loads about me) involves Rene Descartes and friends out for a few beers.

Having just finished a round, one of his buddies turned to him and asked,

"Another one, Rene?"

"Oh . . . I think not," the famous philosopher replied, and disappeared. :D
