I'm gonna be travelling around the southern states of America soon and want to pick up an external hard drive and firewire enclosure whilst i'm out there.

Where are the best places to shop? I've heard people talk about CompUSA and BestBuy but are there any others i should look out for?

go into Apple and ask them where they are located, if your looking for Apple products Apple is your best bet

where in the south? if southwestern, specifically arizona, try fry's electronics. it's a monster of an electronics store, not always the best cs, but their prices are fairly low.

If there is a Fry's around, I would give it a look, their prices are usually lower than Best Buy or CompUSA and they have a bigger selection. I wouldn't get an external drive from an Apple store, I am guessing all they carry are Lacie, which are quite expensive.

Ditto here. The place is absolutely amazing and their prices are good. Make sure you read their 4 page color flyer on the bulletin boards (in-store) if you go because the specials are often not displayed on the shelves.

Here's what I know of Fry's electronics. You have to be careful of what you buy, they sell a lot of seconds.
