Track Pad Preferences Keep resetting - whats wrong?

I have a MacBook Pro and I also have an Apple blue tooth track pad that I use. The system preferences for the track pad keep resetting. The main thing I want to be changed and stay changed is the tracking speed. The computer doesn't have to reset for it to go back to the defaults, I am not sure what makes it reset. I searched online and found nothing.
