Erm. Please ignore the title. Wrong post.

So I have a white macbook.. the old one where the battery still comes out.

For some reason when I plug in USB devices such as memory sticks and such, my computer doesn't recognize them and they don't show up on the desktop. However, when I plug in the little adapter for my wireless mouse, that works and I can use the mouse. Is this a hardware issue or maybe I disabled a setting? The memory stick doesn't show up in the Disk Utility. I reset the PRAM and did the thing where I take out the battery, drain the residual power and try it again.

Open your System Profiler (Applications, Utilities, System Profiler.app), and click on USB. What does it say? If it shows nothing attached or doesn't list the USB ports, run the Apple Hardware Test on your machine. You'll need your original DVD set.

Or open up Finder, then Preferences, head for the General tab and put a check mark next to the stuff you want to show up on your Desktop. And the Sidebar tab, same thing for the stuff you want to show up in Finder.

I don't have the DVD's to run the Apple Hardware Test.

I looked at the preferences on the Finder and the stuff for the Desktop/Sidebar.. External disks are checked.

So far, I did all of the following:

- Resetting PRAM
- Archive Reinstall of Snow Leopard
- Apple Hardware Test (if I hook up an external hard drive and try to boot up from it by holding option, it sees the USB drive andwill let me boot up from it)

Any suggestions?

How many sticks are we talking about - one?

If so, I'd say that stick is dead if Disk Utility does not see it.

Multiple sticks, external hard drives, etc. They all work on my MBP, but not on this Mac. They don't come up in Disk Utility.
