I am trying to back up on Time capsule (not the first time but Time Machine has been switched off). Time MC options tells me that the disk is available with 630.5 GB of 925.5 available. It also tells me that my back up files total 170 GB. When I launch the backup it tries to backup 460.9 GB. What is going on? That's bigger than my hard disk (250GB). Help.

Your Mac's Specs

925.5-630.5=295 already backed up

295+170 new to back up = 465; this is where the 460 comes from

Thanks for the tip - I now understand that Time Machine is trying to back up my hard disk and all the previous back ups of the HD. I certainly don't want to do this - how can I restrict the back up to the 170 GB?
