That's is a VERY open question. It boils down to what you want it for.
After you take into account storage space for the OS, you really only start with 14GB of storage.
My iPhone 4 (16GB) is running current iOS version 4.1 and I currently have 2,090 songs, 7 videos (short home videos), 2,100 photos (mostly taken with my digital camera in RAW, so they're pretty large files), and 31 apps. I have 4.5GB of space left.

Only you can answer that question. Do you need 32GB of space? If not, can you manage with having only 16GB? How much content do you have? How much of it do you want on your phone? Answer those and use that as a means of determining what you need.

I have 720 songs (incl'g 2 audio books totaling about 40 hrs), 2 movies, 5 half hr TV shows, a dozen music vids, <100 pics, 30 apps, 28 ebooks - have 21.5GB free out of 29.3GB available on the 32GB model.

On my 64GB iPad - have the same 720 songs, 1 movie, 16 half hr TV shows, the same dozen music vids, 258 pics, 55 apps, 35 ebooks, 15 comics, 31 magazines - have used 12.7GB on it.

The point is, if pricing is a concern, it's easy enough to manage carrying what you need with the 16GB devices.

I view this issue just like I view computers:

"Always buy the most you can afford". If you can afford a 32Gb iPhone, buy one. If not, then don't. In the end there is no such thing as too much space and better to have more then you'll ever use then needing more then you have.

if you have the resources to buy a 32gb, i'd say go for the 32gb version. i've got a 16gb iphone and i always need to delete some apps just so to conserve the space. with the number of useful and gaming apps out there, you can be sure to fillup that space. it's a matter of which fits your budget the most.

that's like asking should i get the steak or the fish. It's up to you and your media collection. I personally think the 16gb is more than enough. Reason being with all the streaming options now it's not really necessary to carry your entire collection with you everywhere. Just stream it over wifi or 3g.

Id go bigger. I bought a 16gig 3gs and vowed if i ever buy another iphone, or well when i do I should say, I will be buying a 32 or 64 if such will exist when im in the market for an upgrade. I wish I could carry a lot more music, videos, and files on my phone. Minus I have so many apps on the thing that take up space.
