I'm working on a MacBook OS X 10.5.8. I use Time Machine on a Western Digital hard drive, and it has been working without problems. But now when I plug it in, the hard drive isn't being recognized. The usb light on the drive is still flashing, but it's not being recognized on the computer. Any thoughts?

Can you see the drive from Disk Utility? If you can, try to do a verify and repair on it. If Disk Utility can not see the drive or refuses to run the verify and repair or returns errors, the drive may be defective.

Is the drive still under warranty? (Most WD drives are warranted for 3 years.)
If so, and the drive is defective, contact WD and ask for a RMA. Or if it's newly purchased, return it to the store for a refund or exchange.
