Hi - I'm new to Mac (and Safari), having used Firefox on Windows for many years.

I've selected 'open new links in new tab', but is there a way pls to have Safari open up in tab mode straight away - i.e. the first window you see opens in a tab?

Thanks very much

Julian

The first window IS in a tab. But since there are not (yet) any other tabs, the tab title itself is not displayed.

Here's how to get it to do what you want: pic TWO websites you like enough to be a homepage. Open them both. Now under the bookmarks menu, "add bookmark for these two tabs."

Now make that dual bookmark your home page.

Also in Safari, View menu from toolbar. Select Show Tab Bar. Then it always shows even if there is one tab open.

Chas, I was doing it your way and one day ran into that. Figured I would just keep it visible all the time.

Don't feel bad chas. I was thinking mine has opened in tabs for as long as I can remember and just spent the last 10 minutes in Preferences trying to figure out why.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
Love the threads like this.... always get a chuckle out of them.
Those simple things that are right under our noses are the ones that baffle us.
In saying that, I'm a big fan of new windows, and using spaces and hot corners to cycle through, rather than tabs.... Just a preference thing, or habit really :p

Better under my nose than over my head! But I was shaking my head reading that convoluted method. I never woulda thought of that. Luckily, I stumbled on the Show Tab Bar command early on.
