I just picked up a Mac G5 dual 2.0ghz. I am looking for the correct airport card I have seen from other threads that I have a late model and require a different card other than the Airport Extreme. Any ideas on which on it the correct model? Thanks

To be super sure what you have...do you have a Powermac G5 "dual-processor" 2.0ghz...or a Powermac G5 "dual-core" 2.0ghz?

And the easiest way to tell is the memory. Dual Core 'late 2005' G5's use DDR2 memory and have PCI-E slots. This model uses a special Bluetooth.Airport combined card with a stand off card. Do a search as it has been discussed before, including pricing and availability.

Mac G5 Airport help

OK, I know the G5 use DDR2 memory after uprgrading the ram and I'm pretty sure it has dual 2.0ghz processors. Looking on the inside it shows one main processor, not the split 2. I'll double check after I'm off work. Thanks for the help

Harry, thanks you so much for your help. I ordered the combo card for $7.00 on ebay. Today someone gave me the Apple M8881LL/A AirPort Extreme Card. I guess I don't need that. But I do have one more question? Looking at the combo card it looks like I'm missing a few parts? I'll upload pics very soon. Thanks again to all who have helped.

Wow...$7.00 sounds awful cheap for a combo card!:) Maybe you could give us a link to make sure you got the right thing.

I thought so too. But I went to DC warehouse and double checked the part number. I ordered the runaway board and snaps from DC. But couldn't find the screw set. Thanks for making sure I did't but the wrong parts.

Apple Airport Extreme & BT Mini PCIE PCI-e Card A1126 - eBay (item 200517918317 end time Oct-09-10 14:04:02 PDT)

Looking at that e-Bay auction...the one thing that confuses me is this found in the description:

"This is the female variation. There is also a male version."

I'm not really sure what this means...or what Powermac G5 computer models this would apply to (meaning which models would use the "female" version...and which would use the "male").

This would actually have been very easy to verify by looking at your computers motherboard before buying...but heck at $6.99 with free shipping ..not a whole lot of risk.

It appears to be the part you need...hopefully the male/female thing won't be a big deal.:)

The link you have supplied is not to a Bluetooth/Airport Combo Card alas, simply an Airport Extreme for earlier G5's.

I think that this is the card that is needed...if you want airport & bluetooth in your Powermac G5:

p.s. I'm not suggesting purchasing from the website I linked (linked just for the photo). You might be able to find it cheaper somewhere else...or on e-Bay.

Yeah...I thought $7.00 bucks was awful cheap!;)

The link says that this card is "extremely rare"...and that regular price is $194...on "sale" for $87. I bet it can be found on e-Bay for less.:)

Didn't you see my post (#11 above)?...that's the correct card. The $7.00 card you purchased is not correct.

I think that the card you purchased is for an iMac G5...not a Powermac G5.

It took a while but got everything figured out. Turns out I did have the right card. I complicated everything by looking for advanced problems. Should have done like the grade school teacher said and Keep It Simple Stupid. I cleaned the connectors with a eraser rebooted and bingo!!! Everything started as it was suppose too. I thank all of you who have helped. I see way many other Mac users use this site.
