Can't play guitar with MP3 in GB

Your Mac's Specs
13" MBP - 2.7 Ghz, Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM.
I dropped in an MP3 into the GB timeline and I want to add real guitar to it. However, it's not coming through. The iMic is recognized but nothing from the guitar in either USB ports.
