Hahaha I know this isn't up for debate, but what are the chances of mac-forums losing the cute but not so cute smilies? :p

I particularly don't like these suckers: :) ;)
I mean -what's with the red face and black head? And the quicktime symbol looks like a monocle.

lol, yes. We have been discussing changing the smilies again. The set before these were pretty good. We will see what we can find ;)

w00t. So some people are up for a change. Thank you nice moderators. I was afraid I was gonna get flamed xD. I wish I had something to suggest, but i dunno. Someone on this forum (can't remember the user name) made some AWESOME avatars. Maybe if we all beg nicely, he/she could generate some awesome smilies also. :)

I will tell you this much, I will die before there are animated smilies on this board. They are seriously the most annoying thing on the internet after the "blink" tag ;)

As for the smilies in general, we have been looking into alternatives.

I concur - animated smilies are really annoying, especially on message boards.
